Crystal clear now, thanks gain Sebastian! :)

So those Rnd High and Low values don’t depend on anything inputted in the Range Tuning Table though, right? So I can leave the tuning table totally flat, and then put -6 and +6 for Rnd High and Rnd Low and every note played will still be detuned a random amount between -6 and +6, right?

Never mind, just realised that speed control and legato tweak are two separate things. Doh.

Are you not using the mod wheel? It doesn’t really sound like it in those examples you posted. The mod wheel is the single most important midi CC to achieve realism when using any LASS library.

Ah right, phew! Thanks for the explanation.

Well I went through a few different expression pedals before I settled on the Yamaha FC7. The FC7 has the highest angle travel from my experience (I think it’s 30 degrees, while all others have just 20 or 25 degrees travel). The FC7 can also be adjusted for playing sitting down or standing up, which makes it very convenient. To be honest I was still finding it hard using the expression pedal to cover the max 0 – 127 modulation range, but since using the CC Tables menu to reduce the range to 0 – 75 I find it much more controllable. It does feel very natural using the pedal to drive the dynamics of your instruments – particularly if you have a driving license! It feels as natural as pushing the accelerator in your car to make it drive. It might feel terrible though if you can’t drive, I dunno :)

I’d definitely recommend trying it though, but get the FC7 to give yourself a chance. It can be pretty picky though depending what controller you have, so you should also purchase this cheap little adapter… http://music.ashbysolutions.com/misc.htm …that will match the FC7 with any controller. For instance, the FC7 works great with my Studiologic SL990-XP, but only covered 0 – 25 when connected to my Oxygen 88. Though as soon as I used the adapter the Oxygen 88 read the full 0 – 127 range.

Congrats to Seb! Andrew, can you confirm Casiquire’s above post? I read other posts from several months back indicating that 2.2 would contain just fixes – is that what we should expect from 2.5, or can we look forward to a feature update too? :)

I assigned some CC1 and CC11 to 2 adjacent faders. I am riding both of them same time

Interesting Andrew, are you constantly moving those two fingers at different levels (that must be tough!) or do they both copy one another in parallel? If they are both at the same level then why not assign CC1 and CC11 to the same fader instead of two different faders?

I switched from VSL strings to LASS (and very glad I did btw!) but I remember it was common practice in their forums to assign both dynamics and expression to the mod wheel, though many people made the argument that soft dynamics would be barely audible when the expression is down that low also. Is that your main reason for keeping them each on their own separate faders?

So you don’t use any expression on your first pass-through Sebastian? You leave expression for a subsequent pass? Would be interested to hear anyone else’s workflows if you’d all like to chime in :)

Thanks for your replies guys. So what are you typically controlling when doing your first pass through? Obviously if you are using the mod wheel for dynamics then you’ve just got one hand free for chords. But do you also use a pedal for expression? Or a fader? Do you use a breath controller for NV-Vib on your first pass-through? Or is that something you prefer to tinker with after you’ve got the notes down? Just interested in your own first pass-through workflows, since nobody knows LASS more than you two ;)

Now that the dust has pretty much settled on the ARC… I think we can accommodate on this in the near future.

Any idea when there might be some MIDI files available Andrew? :)

Would love to see the midi files for ‘Classic Strings ala Chuck’ – beautiful arranging!

I presume almost everyone in this thread feels the same… viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1008&p=10346&hilit=midi+examples#p10346

It would make a HUGE difference to the whole LASS learning experience if someone could deliver on this.

I just bought LASS 2 Full and Legato Sordino 2 last week, I had been using VSL for all string duties, and I must say I’d find the learning curve a lot smoother if there were example MIDI files on the Audiobro website that we could import into our DAWs. The VSL website has tonnes of MIDI files for each instrument, and it makes it much easier to learn. Once you can match aurally what you can see visually on the screen everything seems to click in place. I think beginners would really appreciate it if Audiobro (or anyone!) could upload some example projects. Nothing big. No audio or other plugins. I wouldn’t at all worry about the user knowing how to import MIDI file type 0 and assigning it to Kontakt, that’s all fairly straight-forward and understood by anyone with basic sample library knowledge.
