Right after posting I noticed something that might be a clue:

It seems to happen to tracks that have their timebase set to lineair. For anyone not familiar: This is a per-track setting in Nuendo (between musical or linear) that determines how the track behaves to certain changes in the timeline. So for example if you change the tempo of the track, a track set to musical will follow the tempo changes and play ‘faster’ (Audio will stretch, Midi will be set to a higher BPM) but a track set to lineair will stick to the same timing.

I’ve never seen this influence the functioning of a library/Kontakt/any other VST to this day.

    Hi,

I’ve noticed a bit of difference too, some other things I found out except for what Sebastian already mentioned here: By default, the patches have Auto-Divisi enabled. Turning this off makes sure all divisis play the same note and might fatten up the sound a bit, especially if you’re playing legato bits, I’ve noticed this making a difference.

Also, The full section in LASS 2 has First Chairs included, LASS 3 does not, so it can be worth it to add those in, in my experience this has considerable impact for the perceived ‘distance’ and ‘strength’ of the sound.

I’ve been looking into why they wheren’t included and it turns out the FC’s don’t support all functions of the new 3.0 section presets do, so they put them in a separate patch. As a ‘hack’ I often load both in the same Kontakt instance, and set their inputs to the same MIDI channel. This makes sure they both get the same keyswitches and CC changes, and thus basically play the same ‘parts’.

Finally, LASS 2 has a bit of EQ as a basis for all patches. I haven’t figured this one out entirely yet because LASS 3 should have this too, but they feel different to me. LASS 2 seems warmer in sound – setting it to one of the presets like Shaws Redeem (in the mixer) makes up for this a little bit. I suggest playing around with it untill you find a setting that works for you.
